Russia Agribusiness Report Q2 2018
The Russian agricultural sector has responded strongly to the 2014 retaliatory ban on agricultural imports from the EUand other Western countries. Russia broke historical records in the production of wheat, corn, sugar, poultry and pork in 2017, and isapproaching self-sufficiency in sugar and poultry. The interaction between geopolitics and trade policy will continue to introduceuncertainty into the sector, particularly in the dairy and livestock sub-sectors. Reforms to agricultural subsidies have been approvedin 2018, but the full repercussions of these changes will be known only in the coming years.
