Romania Mining 2018
Romania's potential as an important centre for European mining remains undermined by a number of ongoingchallenges. While government efforts aim to improve the business environment by reducing corruption and providing a steadyeconomic platform, these efforts have only partly filtered through to the mining sector, resulting in challenges to foreign operators. As well as a lingering infrastructure deficit, the government's opposition to Gabriel Resources' Rosia Montana mining projecthighlights opposition towards commercial mining ventures that still exists in the country, resulting in limited leveraging of thecountry's significant resources. Meanwhile, pressure on the government to reduce its carbon emissions is resulting in the steadydecline of the coal mining industry. These obstacles aside, the Eldorado Gold's Certej gold mining project should lead to significantgrowth in gold production over the next few years.
