Qatar Tourism Q1 2018

Qatar Tourism Q1 2018

BMI View: The outlook for the Qatari tourism industry remains positive with steady growth on both the short- and medium-term horizons. The government has earmarked tourism as a crucial pillar in diversifying the economy away from hydrocarbons and stated that it will invest up to USD45bn over the long-term to develop the industry. The government's efforts of having 10mn international visitors by 2030 will be complemented by sustained investments in transportation and accommodation infrastructure of the country.

We further anticipate steady investments leading up to Qatar's hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2023 Aquatics Championship. The ongoing diplomatic embargo placed on Qatar resulted in strong contractions in terms of regional tourists in 2017 but the efforts to develop new source markets and relax visa policies have all begun to yield dividends.
