The Polish telecommunications market is driven by the deployment of next-generation infrastructure and uptake ofpremium-nonvoice services as well as complex, multi-screen converged services. The mobile market is saturated, butsegregated wireline and broadband market still offers opportunities. However, the recent regulatory denial for UPC and MultimediaPolska merger, is a blow to the market. UOKiK's analysis found that the UPC-Multimedia merger would have resulted in a 'significantrestriction of competition' in pay-TV and wireline services in 11 Polish cities, with some areas likely seeing the combined entityaccount for almost 80% of the market. Both companies must now look to acquire smaller, regional players in order to attain thescale needed to compete with Orange and Cyfrowy Polsat in the converged services market.
