Poland Defence & Security 2019
Poland's procurement of new military hardware platforms and the upgrading of existing ones continues apace. Thecountry is committed to increasing defence spending as well as the expansion of personnel levels. The 2016 Strategic DefenceReview outlined many changes which are now starting to bear fruit. Defence spending is being increased in response to the threatposed by Russia to Poland's east. Defence spending already stands slightly above 2.0% of GDP, putting the nation ahead of many ofits NATO rivals in Europe. We expect defence spending to remain elevated across our forecast period. The government also remainscommitted to improving the domestic industry's capabilities, though much military hardware will continue to be procured fromabroad. The last year has also seen the announcement of the formation of the fourth Polish army battalion, which is to be stationedin the east of the country.
