Pakistan Consumer Electronics Report Q2 2015

BMI View: Pakistan continues to present major challenges to vendors, and underperform its potential dueto a number of economic, social and political risks. However, the large population and rising incomes meanthere are still opportunities for vendors. Although political and security concerns remain, the economicenvironment is supportive of expansion, with rising incomes, consumption growth, and encouragingly,private sector credit growth has also recovered from its recent trough. The opportunity provided by thelarge population and economic environment has been sufficient to attract investment from multinationalconsumer electronics market leaders such as LG, while others have increased their presence andstrengthened distribution and retail channels. The recent launch of LTE services has had a positive impacton handset sales as companies such as Nokia are increasingly introducing low-cost LTE-enabledhandsets. Nonetheless, challenges remain, including the large grey market, poor IP protection, an unstableeconomic and security situation, and weak distribution channels.

Headline Expenditure Projections

Computer Sales: USD409mn in 2014 to USD432mn in 2015, +5.6% in US dollar terms. The commercialPC market has strengthened, with demand from consumers, enterprises and the public sector.

AV Sales: USD868mn in 2014 to USD946mn in 2015, +9.0% in US dollar terms. Cheaper IPTV servicesare helping to drive demand for flat-screen TV sets, but demand remains centred on lower value devices.
