BMI View: The water sector in Oman is open to private operators, with a viable and stable regulatoryframework that is geared towards prioritising investment from foreign countries and a commitment to alevel playing field that is on a par with the best in the MENA region. This makes the market an attractiveinvestment destination, with the expected increases in demand likely to keep driving growth forward.
International developers are involved in a range of projects, including desalination, water systemmanagement and wastewater treatment.
While Oman does not have the financial resources of some of its regional neighbours, such as Qatar, theauthorities must continue to invest in the water sector to keep up with rising demand. With a stable domesticeconomy and political environment, Oman is attractive to international developers. There are a range ofprojects in the pipeline including desalination facilities, water system management and wastewatertreatment, as well as various strategic and consultancy projects aimed at continuing the privatisation of thesector.
