Oman Power Q4 2018

Oman Power Q4 2018

Key View:

The broad thrust of our forecasts remains the same this quarter, albeit with some positive tweaks, with particularrevisions to the incipient renewables sector. We remain upbeat about the trajectory for overall output over the coming decade, expecting total generation across the various power sectors to rise from 43.8TWh in 2018 to 73.18TWh in 2027, up from ourprevious forecast of 71.65TWh for that year. Natural gas remains the overwhelmingly dominant contributor, both in terms of thermaloutput and overall output. While Oman Power & Water Procurement Company in July 2018 reiterated its determination to reducedependence on natural gas - targeting a reduction in this source of electricity to 83% of the power mix in 2024 - we are sceptical ofthis target, forecasting natural gas will account for 91.3% of generation by 2024.
