Oman Information Technology Report AN 2017

BMI View: Oman's IT market was hurt by the broader economic downturn in 2015 and 2016 that wasderived from the fall in the oil price - but there were other factors at play that will continue to be a drag onthe market, such as a loss of demographic support, PC saturation and the cannibalisation of some PCspending by smartphones. The outlook is, however, brighter from 2017, especially for software andservices, but we caution that risks are weighted to the downside as Oman is more vulnerable than most GulfStates to another move lower in oil prices.

Latest Updates And Industry Developments

Computer Hardware Sales: OMR92mn in 2017, rising to OMR95mn in 2021 at a CAGR of 0.7%.After successive annual declines in 2015 and 2016 we expect the market to improve but there will be adrag from the cannibalisation of tablet and low-end notebook demand by smartphones.

Software Sales: OMR43mn in 2017 to OMR51mn in 2021, corresponding to a CAGR of 4.7%.Economic diversification and public sector modernisation will create new opportunities, especially fordata analytics applications, while regional political tensions should also boost cyber security spending.
