Myanmar Infrastructure Report Q2 2016

Myanmar Infrastructure Report Q2 2016

BMI View: Myanmar's gradual relaxation of foreign investment and ownership restrictions is contributingto a substantial uptick in opportunities for foreign construction firms in all sectors. Demand is highfollowing years of underinvestment and Myanmar's transport and energy infrastructure is in need ofsignificant modernisation and expansion. Residential construction is also a growth area as rising householdincomes combined with urbanisation leads to increased demand for large-scale city developments. Whileopportunities are certainly growing, we note challenges remain, including a weak regulatory environment, ongoing corruption and opaque bureaucratic processes.
