Mozambique Agribusiness Q4 2018
Our relatively positive view on the agribusiness sector of Mozambique was marginally weakened by forecast downgradeslast quarter. We expect to see a return to growth in production across the three sub-sectors we track by 2019, however. This view ison the back of downgrade of our forecasts for sugar production and corn consumption and an upwards revision of our cornproduction forecasts across the next five years. Despite the revisions to our forecasts, we highlight that the country has beenattracting growing interest from foreign investors and the industry will benefit from this trend in the coming years. AlthoughMozambique could tap into abundant and largely unexploited land and water resources, its production will not keep up with robustconsumption growth. Self-sufficiency regarding corn and poultry will slowly decrease in the coming years, leading to increasingreliance on imports.
