Morocco Telecommunications Report Q2 2016

BMI View: The Moroccan telecoms market is in flux, between a mobile segment which looks forprofitability and a fixed segment looking for more competition. The success of advanced data services, with3G a third of the market, has not materialised as higher profits, with subscriber growth also impacted byoperators' growing focus on postpaid subscribers, discounting inactive prepaid SIMs. The fixed marketcontinues to be dominated by Maroc Télécom, with the lack of progression in unbundling hindering growth,competition and the development of the market.Key Data

There were 43.08mn mobile subscriptions in Morocco at the end of 2015, a y-o-y decline of 2.3%. Themajor driver was 3G subscriptions, which increased to 13.337mn, almost a third of the market.

There were 1.973mn broadband subscriptions at the end of 2015, a y-o-y decline of 14.7%. The mainreason was a strong decline in dedicated mobile broadband subscribers, from 1.33mn to 841,000, whichwere not offset by growth in the fixed segment, from 983,000 to 1.132mn.

There were 2.222mn fixed voice connections, a y-o-y decline of 10.7%. Growth has been impacted bymobile substitution.
