Morocco Agribusiness Report Q2 2015

BMI View: Morocco's agriculture sector holds significant potential, particularly the dairy, poultry andsugar industries. The dairy sector benefits from growing interest from international dairy companies and islikely to enjoy strong growth in the coming years. Our optimism is bolstered by the government-initiatedGreen Morocco Plan, which is likely to see increased investment in an effort to reduce the industry'sweather-related production risks out to 2020. We believe that the twin strategies of producing high-yieldand market-related agriculture, as well as improving on its existing water conservation program, will yieldsignificant results in the medium-to-long term.

Key Forecasts

Wheat production growth to 2018/19: 62.0% to 5.4mn tonnes. This will come on the back of steadygrowth in the country's wheat demand, a result of strong economic growth. Increased planting andproductivity gains will also help to support output. The spectacular growth rate is due to base effectsfollowing 2012/13's drop in production.

Corn consumption growth to 2019: 33.5% to 2.7mn tonnes. Demand growth will mainly be driven bya steadily expanding domestic livestock sector.
