The outlook for the food and drink sector will improve in 2018, as recovering oil prices support consumer confidence inoil-exporting economies and as structural reforms finally yield positive results in countries such as Egypt. In the medium to longterm, we see diverging trends between developed Gulf markets and their North African counterparts. GCC markets, as well as Israel,will see rising demand for convenience and online retailing, while the health-consciousness trend, encouraged by governmentsacross the region, will also remain at play. Consumer preferences across North Africa will be much less dynamic, with householdsmostly shifting towards more purchases of packaged food and gaining access to organised food retail, which is still in its infancy.
