BMI View: Mauritius has a well-established tourism market. The country has long been a popular beachholiday destination for vacationers from Europe and arrivals from affluent Asia Pacific, and MiddleEastern markets are also increasing as travel connections improve and visa restriction are eased. Thecountry is well placed to keep up with demand, being home to an extensive hotel sector which catersprimarily to the high end and luxury travel segment and with visitor numbers increasing steadily, we expectto see growth across all key market indicators over the five year forecast period to 2020.

Key Updates And Forecasts:

In November 2015 Tourism Minister Xavier-Luc Duval announced a ban on the construction of newhotels in Mauritius until the end of 2016 as the government seeks to find a balance between the expansionof the hotel sector and growth in the wider tourism industry. Despite this pause, we expect to see anexpansion of the hotel sector by the end of the forecast period in 2020, with a continued focus on theluxury travel segment.
