Malaysia Infrastructure Report Q2 2015

Malaysia is experiencing a weakening property market, which will likely lead to a slight decrease in the construction sector from the 2014 growth of 11.5%. A combination of factors, including an oversupply of residential property, the implementation of GST in April 2015 and cooling measures on the property market will likely reduce sales and construction of residential property.

However, the report maintains a strong growth forecast of 10.9% for 2015. The government's commitment to expenditure on infrastructure supports the growth forecast. The Malaysian federal government's spending on transport and energy infrastructure will be the main driver for construction activity in 2015.  There are other opportunities in the transport sector (including road and rail) as well as the energy sector.
