Malaysia Food & Drink Q1 2019

Malaysia Food & Drink Q1 2019

Key View:

Malaysia’s food and drink industry will exhibit robust growth throughout our forecast period through to 2022, althoughspending will slow in 2019 as growth wears off from its base effects. Alcohol consumption will remain low, however, spending levels,in local currency terms, will see healthy growth, with an average growth of 7.8% over the medium-term. We anticipatepremiumisation to become an increasingly common trend throughout many sectors as the country’s growing middle classcontinue to demand more premium and expensive products. Convenience through increased urbanisation and higher labour forceparticipation is impacting Malaysian consumers' dietary choices, with greater focus being placed on spending on convenience foodproducts, over food associated with greater nutritional value and health properties.
