Kuwait Petrochemicals Q1 2019
Kuwait's diverse petrochemicals product slate and high level of integration through the value chain, from upstreamresources to polymers and aromatics, puts it in a strong position to weather the growing international trade war between China andthe US, as well as taking advantage of the Saudi-led trade blockade on Qatar. Kuwait's main weakness will be its reliance onpolyethylene and ethylene glycol exports, which will be faced with the challenges of US supply as well as rising output fromneighbouring Saudi Arabia. However, heavier cracks provide opportunities to diversify into a broader range of products thatcompetitors lack, such as aromatics and propylene chain products. Further value added to Kuwaiti petrochemicals is essential todeveloping the production chain and ensuring that the industry is buffered from the effects of increased competition in externalmarkets.
