Kenya Tourism Q2 2018
Long established as an accessible and welcoming destination, historically Kenya has enjoyed a successful tourism sector.Regarded as one of the best places for wildlife viewing and safaris, alongside its selection of great beaches and access to other partsof East Africa, the country is especially popular for tourists from many European markets. Despite these obvious positives, overrecent years, Kenya has suffered from a fall in tourism figures, driven by fewer arrivals. Ongoing and often violent political unrest, driven by controversial elections, has led to many governments recommending their citizens to avoid the area. Coupled with seriousterror incidents in the country and surrounding region, this has certainly contributed to the falling visitor figures. The future looksbrighter, however, with political leaders now declaring their unity and the government keen to develop travel and accommodationinfrastructure. Tighter security measures have also been installed to ensure potential visitors feel the country would be asafe option. Forecasts indicate a return to growth for to Kenyan tourism and the short- to mid-term looks to be healthy. With newflight links to the USA and other key African markets set to open later this year, and the Kenyan government policy declaring theimportance of tourism to the country's prosperity, Kenya looks ready to re-establish itself as the jewel of East Africa.
