Kenya Telecommunications Q2 2020
We retain our positive, long-term view of the Kenyan telecommunications market. Operators are increasingly focused onopportunities in the mobile broadband sector. The growing demand for mobile data is fuelled by growth in the usage of socialnetworking, music, video and mobile financial services. The three major mobile network operators have launched 4G services, andare planning heavy investments into expanding their coverage across the country. Aggressive pricing from rival operators isgradually chipping away at the incumbent Safaricom's market share. The government has been reported to contemplate tax breaksto spur investment in broadband roll-out. In the wireline sector, we believe access to mobile technology will hamper growth of fixedvoice subscriptions. The demand for fixed broadband services, mainly fibre, is growing and we expect a boost to the pace of growthin this segment as players like Safaricom and Liquid Telecom make investments to expand their fibre optic networks.
