Kazakhstan Power Q3 2019
Kazakhstan's power market, though small by regional standards, is sufficient to meet current domestic consumptiondemands due to a strong thermal power sector backed by extensive national coal and natural-gas reserves. The country currentlymakes limited use of hydropower and non-hydropower renewables, though investment in the renewables sector is graduallyexpanding with the support of various regional development organisations. Kazakhstan does present a challenging investmentenvironment, particularly in light of extensive state involvement in the power sector, which will serve to limit private investment inthe power market.
