Japan Renewables Q4 2019
We maintain that growth in the Japanese renewables sector will slow from 2021, with the growth surge from thecountry's feed-in-tariff scheme set to tail off from post-2020. We remain cautious on Japan kickstarting growth through its auctionsscheme, which has failed to award targeted amounts for solar capacity at low costs to date, highlighting the challenges Japan faceswhen it comes to deploying cost-competitive renewable energy. Finally, the Abe administration remains committed to restartingmore of the country's nuclear power fleet, which is likely to trump any large push towards renewable energy in the near term as thecountry grapples with elevated retail electricity prices amid high reliance on imported coal and gas.
