Iraq Defence & Security 2019
Key View :
Iraqi defence spending will see solid annual growth throughout the coming decade, facilitated by improvingmacroeconomic conditions and driven by Baghdad's efforts to counter terrorism, contain unrest and regain control over bordersand airspace. Iraqi armed forces are in need of a range of equipment, particularly in the ground and aerospace segments. However, operational expenses will continue to take up a large share of the overall defence budget, limiting funds available for newprocurement. Iraq looks set to remain wholly reliant on foreign suppliers - most notably the US and increasingly Russia - to meet itsarmed forces' requirements, given the lack of well-established domestic defence industry.
