Indonesia's tourism industry, while currently lagging behind that of competing regional markets such as Thailand andMalaysia, does offer substantial growth potential. A vast array of attractions combined with growing regional and growing transportconnections will help the country to draw in more visitors, boosting tourism-related spending and hotel and restaurant industryvalue. The country's large population, which is recording improving consumer spending power, is another potential draw forinvestors as demand for better quality accommodation and services across Indonesia's islands is increasing. While there arechallenges for investors in Indonesia, including underdeveloped infrastructure in some regions and an often opaque operatingenvironment, the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
