Hungary Freight Transport and Shipping Report Q4 2017
Hungary's export-oriented industries should benefit from an upturn in trade. This will supportrelatively healthy growth for rail, inland waterways and air freight over the short and mediumterm. However, road freight will be negatively impacted as there is a move towards greener modes oftransport in 2017 and through to 2021. Hungarian trade will continue to benefit from expansion of EUtrade relations and increased bilateral trade between Hungary and a growing number of global partners.
Nevertheless, a potential downside risk comes from the underlying structural competitiveness issues facingthe economy, which are increasingly a concern for businesses.
Key Updates And Forecasts
Growth in Hungary will rebound over the next two years, largely as investment accelerates in line with apick-up of both EU funds and corporate profits. The government's shift to an expansionary fiscal policywill boost private consumption, which, alongside a cyclical upturn in global trade will see industrialproduction begin to recover. The growth outlook will be limited somewhat by deterioratingcompetitiveness throughout the economy and unpredictable policymaking.
