Hungary Freight Transport and Shipping Report Q2 2016
BMI View: The year 2016 will see mixed results for Hungary's freight sector, with rail freight growing by astrong 4.4% and road and air freight seeing more moderate growth of 2.2% and 2.8%, respectively. Thegood performance of rail freight will come on the back of the eurozone recovery, which will boost demandfor Hungary's vehicles exports. Road and air freight will profit from improved domestic consumption, whichwill drive imports of consumer goods that are transported by these means. Over the medium term, weforecast these trends to continue, which, supported by investment into rail infrastructure, will increase theimportance of rail in the freight mix.
BMI forecasts good growth in trade over 2016, as rising private consumption will drive import growth, andthe recovery in the eurozone (particularly in Germany), will boost demand for Hungarian vehicle exports.
Over the medium term, we expect resilient growth in trade, albeit at lower levels than in the previous yearsas economic growth in Hungary will slow down.
