BMI View: Hong Kong has one of the most well-developed and established tourism industries in the highly competitive and increasingly growing Asia Pacific region. The special administrate region benefits from a strong historical reputation in a part of the world that is witnessing robust demand for air travel and international outbound tourism. We note that the market remains heavily reliant upon the massive influx of visitors from mainland China. However, it does retain a degree of attraction for travellers from further afield, both as a stand-alone destination and as a transit hub thanks to the wide ranging flight connections offered from the Hong Kong International Airport. Latest data from 2017 indicates that the market returned to steady positive growth after two years of lacklustre performance owing to the strong inbound arrivals from mainland China, thus revising our medium-term forecast outlook.
