Greece Telecommunications Q4 2019
The Greek telecoms market is impacted by the country's fragile macroeconomic situation. Despite high penetrationrates, the vast majority of subscriptions are prepaid, which has led the country to have the lowest ARPUs in Western Europe. Thecompetitive landscape of the Greek telecommunications market is undergoing some changes, as Vodafone completed itsEUR118mn (USD144.75mn) purchase of CYTA Hellas in July, increasing its strength in the market, while WIND's April pay-TV launchwill enable it to increase its range of offers. In addition, a joint submission from WIND and Vodafone bidding for a 32.8% stake inForthnet started in December the phase of exclusive negotiations; However, it seems that Forthnet's shareholders were unable toreach an agreement with the Vodafone-Wind consortium and the deal was unsuccessful. Consequently, the discussions with aconsortium of Antenna Group and Blackstone started, and by July 2019 it was reported a deal was close to be reached.
