Greece Telecommunications Q1 2019
The Greek telecoms market is impacted by the country's fragile macroeconomic situation. Despite high penetrationrates, the vast majority of subscriptions are prepaid, which has led the country to have the lowest ARPUs in Western Europe. Thecompetitive landscape of the Greek telecommunications market is undergoing some changes, as Vodafone completed itsEUR118mn (USD144.75mn) purchase of CYTA Hellas in July, increasing its strength in the market, while WIND's April pay-TV launchwill enable it to increase its range of offers. In addition, a joint submission from WIND and Vodafone is one of two shortlisted to takepart in the final bidding for a 32.8% stake in Forthnet; WIND/Vodafone and the media company Antenna Group had to submit theirfinal offers by 19 October. How the relationship between WIND, Vodafone and Forthnet would play out if the former two operators'bid is successful is as yet unknown.
