Global Telecommunications Q4 2019

Global Telecommunications Q4 2019

Key View:

Much of our regional analysis focused on advanced connectivity technologies this quarter, with 5G accounting for thebulk of that coverage. Having forecast global 5G connections to reach a total of 76.2mn by 2028 to illustrate a special report on thattopic, we are now forecasting 5G at the country level, focusing on countries where services have been commercialised, mainly inEurope, Asia and the Middle East. The proliferation of cloud-based information and entertainment services will depend as much onthe availability of 5G networks as it will on fibre deployment and datacentre build-out. Consequently, future 5G connections willlikely involve 'things' rather than paying individuals, so must be forecast separately from 3G/4G smartphone users. We have adjustedour mobile and broadband forecasts to take account of greater numbers of connections from 5G-enabled devices.
