Ghana, Kenya & Nigeria Consumer Electronics Report Q3 2017
BMI View: The frontier markets of Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria represent a major growth opportunity forconsumer electronics vendors owing to the low device penetration rates that contrast with developedmarkets - and even most emerging markets. This potential has however largely been offset in recent yearsby the economic crisis associated with the fall in commodities prices, and consequent growth slowdown anddepreciation that hit device affordability. In the medium term this should allow vendors to tap into a potentcombination of low penetration and pent-up demand but we caution that in the short term the risk profileremains elevated for commodity centric economies like those of Sub-Saharan Africa.
