Germany Telecommunications Report Q2 2015

BMI View: Consolidation is driving the German telecommunications market as operators strive to reinventthemselves as full converged service providers. O2 has acquired E-Plus and Vodafone has gained controlof Kabel Deutschland Group and launched Netflix streaming video alongside its more orthodox pay-TVservices. Low value voice and messaging services are being superseded by data-centric services as moreconsumers demand 'everything everywhere' access. The shift of one mobile virtual network operator fromlow-value prepaid to high-value postpaid plans conveys the story set to play out over the next five years. Infixed-line segment too, competition is rife with operators investing heavily in new infrastructure to increasetheir market shares. BMI believes the German competitive landscape is changing quickly and that many oftoday's players will not stay the course.
