Germany Infrastructure Report Q4 2017

Germany Infrastructure Report Q4 2017

BMI View: Germany's construction sector will register moderate growth in the next few years, buoyedprimarily by heightened project activity in and government investment in the rail sector. In the short term, macroeconomic stability and an influx of refugees will also drive demand for additional infrastructure andpromote construction sector growth.

Forecast & Industry developments

We revised our construction sector growth outlook for Germany upwards, based primarily on theexpectation that construction on the USD7.5bn Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link tunnel project will start shortly.

We therefore forecast real growth of 2.3% over the next five years, up from 1.8% previously.

We see risks to our view as skewed to the upside as the ongoing refugee influx is likely to boost demandfor additional infrastructure in the next few years and each political party remains supportive of greaterpublic investment in infrastructure in future in the run up to elections later in 2017.
