Gambia and Senegal Country Risk Report Q2 2019

Gambia and Senegal Country Risk Report Q2 2019

Key View:

After slowing down in 2018, we at Fitch Solutions expect growth in Senegal to pick up in 2019, largely as a result of a recovery in the commerce sector. The construction sector will continue to be a principle driver of growth, as public investment into infrastructure remains robust. Activity in the extractive sectors will also offer tailwinds to growth in the coming quarters due to investment in the oil sector and growing gold production.

Meanwhile, presidential elections scheduled for February 2018 will likely produce an increase in civil unrest in Senegal due to two major opposition candidates likely being unable to run. This will be insufficient to destabilise governance, however, and will be transitory.
