Gabon Consumer & Retail Q2 2018
Gabon's economic growth will start to pick up from 2018 as financial support from the IMF and higher oil prices supportbusiness confidence and spending. However, real GDP growth will peak in 2019 before ticking downwards in subsequent years, aseconomic diversification efforts only partially make up for declining oil production. Real private consumption growth will outperformheadline economic growth, while inflation will remain anchored, collectively driving stronger real household spending. However, structurally high unemployment and endemic income inequality will mean that the majority of the population has littlescope to expand spending beyond essential categories. Furthermore, political risk will remain heightened in 2018 and beyond, suggesting that consumer and business confidence could be precarious, despite the economic recovery.
