The French tourism market is the largest globally. The country continues to attract largenumbers of international visitors annually, complementing a strong domestic travel sector. Despite theongoing risk from terrorism, the outlook for the market remains broadly positive. The sector continues toenjoy strong levels of investment as hoteliers seek opportunities to expand in the market and there arenumerous new properties in development across the country. France's vast array of attractions, competitiveaccommodation sector and range of cross-border travel connections (spanning road, rail, sea and airtravel) will ensure the country remains a leading global tourism destination.

The outbreak of extensive forest fires in several key tourism destinations, including Corsica and theFrench Riviera, has resulted in widespread evacuations and extensive damage to infrastructure. Thedamage could force some holiday markets to change plans, though the impact will likely be short term.
