France Renewables Report Q4 2017
BMI View: We expect total capacity in the French non-hydropower renewables sector to more than doubleover the next decade, as the ambitious sector expansion plan put in place under former President FrançoisHollande will be continued under new President Emmanuel Macron. Macron will therefore maintainHollande's ambitious goals for the sector, ensuring that the established capacity procurement mechanismsput in place under Energy Transition Bill will continue to drive renewables growth.
Forecast and Latest Updates
France will be one of the outperformers in the European non-hydropower renewables landscape over thecoming decade. We forecast total generation from the segment to expand by an annual average of 8.3%between 2016 and 2026 - meaning the sector will increase its share in the French power mix from 8.1%in 2016 to 15% by 2026. Our upbeat outlook is informed by robust government support for the sector - inthe form of established capacity procurement mechanisms and schedules, as well as President EmmanuelMacron's outspoken aims to make France a driver of renewables growth.
