An improving consumer outlook over 2018 is based off a drop in unemployment, economic growth pushing higher andstrong consumer confidence data. This improved sentiment has translated into higher retail sales, particularly over the last threemonths in 2017 and in January 2018, which bodes well for continued strength over the course of the upcoming year. Spending willbe slightly capped by an uptick in inflation which will see higher priced goods and may also curb wage growth in real terms, butgenerally 2018 will see the fastest spending growth in the last decade.
