Europe Infrastructure Report Q4 2017
BMI View: The construction pipeline in Central and Eastern Europe region will remain well diversified infuture, with transport projects dominating on the back of generous financial support from the EU. Similarly, the project pipeline for Western Europe is likewise weighted towards the transport sector, reflecting theimpact of a lack of policy clarity on investment into energy & utilities and the focus on transportinfrastructure to address urbanisation, carbon emissions and logistics challenges.
An analysis of our proprietary Key Projects Database indicates that a total of USD584bn in project valueis currently in the CEE pipeline, USD271bn of which is under construction. On a global basis, this ranksCEE below larger, higher-growth regions like the Middle East and North Africa and Asia.
North America and Western Europe (NA/WE) is home to the second largest project pipeline globally, atUSD2.5trn, behind only Asia. On average, project development in the regions is expensive, reflecting notonly the ambitious nature of projects, but also the high costs of labour, materials and land. Many projectswill take years to make it past the drawing board, raising some risk to lead times.
