Ethiopia Power Q3 2019
This quarter our core assumptions for the sector remain in place. While we cautiously pencilled in new generation fromthe 6.5GW Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam hydroelectric power plant from 2023, in line with the government expectation,we note that further delays could materialise, considering that additional remedial works might be required once the newcontractor is appointed. We also note growing interests in other renewables technologies, with the government planning for fivewind farms and geothermal production at various sites. Yet and in spite of the delays at the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, weexpect that hydropower megaprojects will drive growth in electricity generation and capacity over our 10-year forecast period inEthiopia, backed by ambitious government commitment.
