Egypt Consumer & Retail Q4 2018
Key View :
Egypt's consumer outlook for Q418 is more positive than the same time last year. Austerity measures are starting todeliver stronger economic growth and are reigning in the rampant inflation of previous years. The economic effects of the sharpdevaluation of the Egyptian pound and the introduction of a value-added tax have now passed through, but recent cuts to energysubsidies will prolong double digit inflation for 2018. This paired with high unemployment suggests that the majority of consumerswill remain price conscious for the remainder of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, preferring more affordable, locally producedgoods over premium imported items.
