Ecuador Telecommunications Report 2017
BMI View: Operators are focused on the rollout of 4G LTE services and on migrating consumers to highervalueservices. Data usage is increasing but this is not necessarily translating into higher ARPUs becauseof aggressive pricing. Copper and cable TV networks are being augmented to offer faster broadbandservices, but the ubiquity of low-cost 3G and 4G mobile broadband undermines these efforts. Consolidationis a possibility in the wireline arena, a move which could put pressure on the dominant incumbent CNT.
Ecuador's national telecoms plan for 2016-21 places emphasis on improving 3G and 4G penetration andaccess to high speed fixed broadband but the fixed sector targets may prove overly ambitious.
