Denmark Country Risk Report Q3 2018

Denmark Country Risk Report Q3 2018

Danish economic growth will remain restrained over the next dec-ade, with real GDP growth averaging just 1.3% annually. Economic expansion will remain constrained by structural factors such as demographics and high private sector debt.

The large debt burden of the private sector presents significant sys-temic risks. Low interest rates have allowed households to reduce their debt burdens proportionally to their incomes and to GDP as a whole, but over the long term, the household sector will remain vulnerable to shocks.

The formation of a new government in November 2016 augurs well for a consolidation of Denmark's fiscal accounts over the long run. It also reduces the likelihood of a government collapse before the next scheduled elections in 2019.
