Colombia Tourism Report Q3 2018
Colombia has a fairly well-established tourism sector, albeit one that has been severely affected by the ongoing conflictbetween the government and the FARC. With the FARC peace deal now fully implemented and peace talks underway with thesmaller ELN, Colombia is poised for significant growth over the coming years. The government is committed to improving securityagainst terrorism and to developing the national travel infrastructure. These changes should open up the less developed areas ofthe country which have thus far been unable to establish significant tourist hubs. Major towns and cities, such as Bogotá andBarranquilla, are already well-served by both domestic and international hotel chains, but the sector is by no means saturated. Overthe forecast period, we expect to see many new developments as chains try to take advantage of increasing visitor numbers. Apotential risk to any growth is the escalation of violence or a breakdown of the peace treaty between the government and the FARC,which continues to be fragile.
