Colombia Tourism Q1 2019
Colombia has a fairly well-established tourism sector, albeit one that has been severely affected by the ongoing conflictbetween the government and FARC. With the FARC peace deal now fully implemented, Colombia is poised for significant growthover the coming years. The government is committed to improving security against terrorism and to developing the national travelinfrastructure. These changes should open up the less developed areas of the country which have thus far been unable to establishsignificant tourist hubs. Major towns and cities, such as Bogotá and Barranquilla, are already well-served by both domestic andinternational hotel chains but the sector is by no means saturated. Over the forecast period, we expect to see many newdevelopments as chains try to take advantage of increasing visitor numbers. A potential risk to growth is the escalation of violenceor a breakdown of the peace treaty between the government and FARC, which remains fragile.
