Colombia Power Q3 2019
Lengthy delays expected on the completion of the Ituango hydropower project have motivated Colombia's UPME toboost investment in new power generating capacity to avoid deficits in the near-to-medium term. Non-hydropowerrenewables investors will stand to gain significantly from the awarding of new power purchase agreements, driving growth in thesolar and wind power sectors over our forecast period to 2028. However, the Ituango hydropower project will still be the largestcontributor to power capacity growth, coming online between 2022 and 2024. We note that further investment opportunity willcome from the need to expand and upgrade the country's power grid infrastructure to facilitate the addition of new capacity, especially in the solar and wind power segments.
