China Petrochemicals Q4 2019
China will bear the biggest hit from the trade dispute with the US. Chinese petrochemicals producers will be moreaffected by trade barriers to manufactured goods than tariffs on their exports. Slower manufacturing growth will have a negativeimpact on imports of petrochemicals products and, as a result, China will be more self-sufficient in petrochemicals. Trends in recentmonths appear to point to growth in domestic production of ethylene and primary plastics, but plastic products are experiencing adownturn. Chinese production of basic products is growing in line with the move towards market self-sufficiency, even asmanufactured plastic products are affected by the softening of exports.
