BMI View: Canada's power market is expected to grow only slowly across our ten-year forecast. Key reason for this is the marginal growth in consumption levels. New power projects are therefore largely incentivised through environmental concerns. The planned coal phase out by 2030 has led to ambitious renewable electricity targets in the two major oil provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan and will provide some growth opportunities. Also, natural gas is seen to benefit from the shift away from coal, while hydro projects continue to dominate the project pipeline.
