Cambodia Power Q2 2019
Power infrastructure in Cambodia, including transmission and distribution networks and power plants, is in need ofsubstantial expansion and improvement. Losses from the network currently amount to nearly a fifth of output and access to the gridremains limited in rural areas. Existing installed capacity is insufficient to meet rapidly growing consumption demands and thecountry has come under criticism for the fast-growing use of coal-fired thermal power. There are however significant opportunitiesfor investment in the power market. New hydropower capacity has boosted domestic generation and the renewable energy sector, particularly solar power, is attracting foreign investment, with the support of regional development funding.
