Bulgaria Telecommunications Q4 2018
The consolidation trend in the Bulgarian market continues, and the mobile market is due to undergo some changes. TheNorwegian incumbent Telenor has agreed to sell its Bulgarian assets (as well as those in Hungary, Montenegro and Serbia) to theCzech private investment company PPF Group for EUR2.8bn. This follows the mobile market leader A1's (formerly Mobitel)acquisition of broadband and pay-TV player Blizoo in 2015. Meanwhile, five local fixed-line operators have announced their intentionto launch Bulgaria's first MVNO which will add a new tier of competition. Despite changing competition, mobile market growth willremain limited. Growth prospects in the mobile market will be driven by uptake of advanced 3G/4G services as carriers expand theirnationwide high-speed data coverage with the rollout of LTE and LTE-A.
